Because the problems turned up on the job first. Finding someone real at short notice in a city with thousands of photographers and no way to tell who is who. Remembering the occasions that matter to the people you shoot for, before the week they happen rather than after. Working out which piece of kit is actually holding your pictures back. Getting an inbox back under control once your address has been handed around. Every one of those is an ordinary problem before it is a software problem, and the apps are what happened after hitting them enough times.

Pixit is the closest one to the photography. Open the map, see the photographers and videographers working around you, and get matched in moments. Both sides verify with a government document and a live selfie, and the client's money is held until they confirm the files landed — which solves the two things that make booking a stranger uncomfortable in both directions. Gift It is a gift planner that lives on your phone: the occasions you keep, the people you buy for, and every idea you have had for them. When more than one of you is buying for the same person, it is the same list on everybody's phone. It works without an account, and nothing you save leaves your phone until you sign in and choose to share a list. It is the one app here on both stores — Gift It on the App Store and Gift It on Google Play.
Binit reads your Outlook or Hotmail mailbox on your phone, groups it by who is actually sending, and gets you off their lists. Then it checks a week later whether each one obeyed, and blocks the ones that lied. Binit on the App Store.
Gearit is the one photographers ask about most. You have a camera, a mic, a light and a laptop, and the result still looks wrong — and most advice online comes from people paid to sell you the expensive item, when the thing actually holding you back is usually the cheapest thing on the desk. The apps started as problems I hit while running the photography, so the two are not separate careers so much as the same work seen from two sides.
