Four things get you a firm quote in one reply instead of a chain of questions: what you're shooting, where, roughly how long you need me, and where the images will end up. If you don't know some of it yet, say so — working that out is part of the job and there's no charge for the conversation.
If you're checking a specific date, lead with the date. Weekends and December fill up first, and it takes thirty seconds to tell you whether it's free.
All of Greater London as standard, plus travel beyond the M25. Travel is written into the quote up front, so the number you're given is the number you pay. Outside London, ask — it's a conversation rather than a policy.
You get a firm price rather than a range, and it doesn't move afterwards. If the date works we can hold it straight away. Before every shoot there's a proper conversation about what the photos are for — most problems on a shoot day are ones that could have been solved beforehand.
