I shoot sport around London — boxing shows, match days, training sessions and athlete portraits. Fast, low-light-capable work that comes back sharp, plus the portrait and promo imagery clubs and individual athletes actually need for social and sponsorship.
The ring pictures on this page come from an Islington Boxing Club show on 15 October 2023. I stayed close to the corners, because that is where the pictures are: a cornerman holding a boxer's arm, a fighter on the stool between rounds shot through the ropes, and the referee standing between both boxers in the middle of the ring.
Ring lights look bright and are not. That afternoon I was at ISO 1000 to 2000 and f/3.2 on a 24-70mm f/2.8, mostly at the long end, with shutter speeds from 1/40 to 1/200 of a second. The slow speeds only work in the still moments, so most of the job is knowing which moment you are in.
The TRAIN, REPEAT and FIGHT pictures are a separate set from November 2024: one athlete on a black background with the word set large across the top, shot at f/1.4 on a 56mm lens. They are made to work as posters and social posts, which is what a fighter needs when promoting a bout or pitching a sponsor. The towel portrait is from a gym session in May 2025.
Action work is a technical problem before it's a creative one. Indoor venues and floodlit evening pitches are genuinely difficult light, and getting frames that are sharp, well-exposed and actually usable takes the right kit and knowing where to stand.
I shoot the play, but also the things that get missed — the bench, the substitutions, the reaction after a goal, the walk off at the end. Those tend to be the images that get used most.
If you're an athlete looking for sponsorship or building a profile, action shots alone aren't enough. You need clean portrait and promo imagery that works as a profile picture, on a sponsor's page, and in a pitch deck.
These are usually shot separately from a match, in controlled light, so we can direct properly and get exactly what's needed.
Clubs typically need three things: squad and headshot sets at the start of a season, match coverage through it, and imagery for social throughout. Booking those together works out better than arranging each one separately as it comes up.
I can shoot a whole squad's headshots in a single session on your own ground, which avoids everyone travelling.

The venue changes the job more than the sport does. Outdoor daytime fixtures are straightforward. Floodlit evening pitches and indoor halls are genuinely difficult light and separate photographers who can do this from those who can't — the frames come back either sharp and usable or grainy and soft, and there's no fixing that afterwards.

Yes. Indoor halls and floodlit evening pitches are the hardest conditions in sports photography and need equipment that performs in low light. It's a normal part of the work rather than an exception.
Quick turnaround matters in sport because the result is only news for a day or two. I can get a selected set back the same evening or next morning where it's needed, with the full gallery following.
Yes, and doing a full squad in one session at your own ground is usually the most efficient way — nobody travels and the whole set looks consistent.
